All the way through the creation story everything was male/female, that is up to day six and God created Man > Adam just male. Then God gave Adam his marching orders, name everything I have created.
Why did God delay in the creation of the female human, why did he wait and have Adam commence the activities he was designed for and then announce that Adam needed an assistant? And why did He not create Adams's counterpart (Eve) at the same time He created Adam as He had evidently done when he made the females of all other species?
Why did He instead instruct Adam to take a nap, when Adam was sleeping He took from Adam a piece of his body and from that flesh and bone He created for Adam a help meet, his counterpart, his associate, Eve the female. Adam wakes up and voila! he is introduced to the flesh of his flesh and bone of his bone.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’ And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. ‘And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. ‘And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was VERY good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
